How can the Mediterranean Diet help achieve the SDGs?

The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development and president of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, Francisco Martínez Arroyo, highlighted that, behind this diet, the most sustainable in the world, are farmers and ranchers from all over the country “who have to be profitable on their farms and must be part of the decision-making process of consumers ”, he insisted.

The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development of Castilla-La Mancha and president of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, Francisco Martínez Arroyo, in the debate forum: ‘How can the Mediterranean Diet help to achieve the SDGs ?’, Which was developed at the Pedralbes Palace in Barcelona, ​​World Capital of Sustainable Food 2021, together with the entire sector, and in which the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the contribution that can be made from the Mediterranean Diet Foundation to its achievement.

Within this framework, Martínez Arroyo today called for everyone to join in so that the Mediterranean Diet “advances” and becomes a “model to follow” and can be “exported”, thus contributing to the fight against climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals. 2030, many of which are included within the philosophy of the Mediterranean Diet.

The Castilian-Manchego minister highlighted in his speech that thanks to farmers and ranchers we enjoy the best diet in the world and the best food safety that is given to the consumer. Thus, he has made a journey through the entire process from the olive grove, through extensive livestock farming or the cereal steppes, these being one of the greatest contributions of biodiversity.
